Welcome to Cardiovascular Health Measurement Scales Wiki

Joint British Societies risk chart (JBS3)

Background info: JBS2
  • JBS3 is an update of JBS2 published by the Joint British Societies.
  • A unique aspect of JBS3 is the emphasis upon the lifetime risk of CVD events while previously, all the risk scales developed were used to predict risk of CVD events within a specific time frame (e.g. 10-year risk).
1) End-points measured
  • Both 10-year risk and lifetime risk of CVD
    • CVD includes: coronary heart disease (angina and myocardial infarction), stroke, transient ischaemic attacks, but not peripheral vascular disease
2) Profile of original population at baseline
  • Based on QRISK Lifetime (1)
    • QResearch database: all participating practices in England and Wales
    • Age: 30 to 84
    • Exclude patients who did not have a postcode related Townsend deprivation score, those who had been prescribed statins before the study start date and those with pre-existing cardiovascular disease
    • Participant number: 1,267,159
3) Validation
  • No validation studies found
4) Length of follow up
  • QRISK Lifetime: up to 16 years
5) Risk factors involved
  • Non modifiable risk factors
    • Gender
    • Age
    • Ethnicity
    • Family history of CVD
    • Townsend quintile
  • Modifiable risk factors
    • Smoking status
    • Lipid profile (Total cholesterol and HDL cholesterol)
    • Systolic blood pressure
    • Diabetes
6) Future work
  • No future work has been noted from the authors.
